Analysing Film Posters - Conclusion

Now that I've looked at a number of film posters from different genres, I have spotted the following conventions which I will try and include in my poster.

• Film title/name (largest copy)

• Billing block - cast/crew - usually appears at the bottom of poster

• Release date - usually near the bottom

• Reviews - often reference genre and plot

• Tagline - usually at the top - usually quite short and usually references genre and plot

• Dominant central image - often of the main character(s)

• Sometimes other smaller images

• Production company logos - often near or part of the billing

• Names of actors 

• Reference to format e.g., 3D or IMAX

• Name of director - usually above the title

• Source material

• Reference to other films - either by the same director or producer

• Certificate/ rating

• Website/ social media

• Reference to awards 

• Reference to merchandise

• Sound logos
