Analysing Romantic Comedy Trailers - Conclusion
After analysing the trailer conventions in terms of genre for 5 films, I have found that these are the typical conventions that came up:
- All of them had high-key lighting
- Most of them had upbeat pop music playing in the background
- Images from the film of main protagonists falling in love
- Mise-en-scene (setting, props, costumes) - often flowers, fancy attire/ casual clothes, cities/holiday destinations
- Introduction to other common romantic comedy character types apart from main protagonists
- Name of film often reflects genre e.g., 'Valentine's Day'
- Taglines relating to the genre
- Release date - most common for romantic comedies to be released in the summer, however not always the case
- Certificate/ rating that is most appropriate for a romantic comedy, usually between 12-15
- Use of editing e.g., crosscuts are sometimes seen in romantic comedies
- The font of the title should reflect the genre
- Can be set during a romantic time e.g., christmas, holidays, valentines day
- Could include references to crew and their previous films
